FASTR - Fast Asynchronous Triggered Replication, Recovery & Disaster Recovery
Replication, Recovery & Disaster Recovery For Virtual Machines in the Cloud & Datacenter.
SynchroKnot FASTR - Fast Asynchronous Triggered Replication, Recovery & Disaster Recovery is a per-Decentralized Virtual Machine variable block-size [ very large-to-small ], fast, intelligent, asynchronous replication to near/remote/DR site, recovery from a local/remote/DR site and recovery from disaster on the DR site or any other site from the DR site. This type of flexibility is hard to find today.
Each virtual machine can be replicated to a separate local/remote/DR site of choice with the simplest configuration and the fastest replication setup & actual replication of practically any other cloud or virtualization products in the industry today.
For example, take a look at VMware Site Recovery Manager [SRM] if you would like to get a feel of today's complex replication and DR solutions that don't just involve the server virtualization software but also the storage replication hardware and software with complex redundant switch [Ethernet & SAN] configurations. Plus, the replication is generally done on a large storage volume[s] that contain multiple virtual machines. This takes a longer time to checksum and send over the data to the replicated site, and in many cases it takes quite long to derive the checksums, during which if a failure occurs, your data in transit disappears, and also the existing data is more prone to data corruption. People are often known to recover from an archive than the replicated site. Such is the disaster-filled complexity of the replication and disaster recovery products today, let aside happening of a future disaster, the engineers and administrators live a disaster every moment with this given complexity. This is common knowledge in the storage industry mentioned here for those not familiar with storage practices.
FASTR only triggers an asynchronous replication when a block is written to inside a virtual machine. [ no agent / software needs to be installed inside the virtual machine(s) ]
Features:
â–¸ Frequency of the replication can be customized by setting a time interval.
â–¸ Priority [ Normal, High, Very High, Low, Very Low ] of the replication can be set to a custom level.
â–¸ Bandwith of the replication can be shaped to a custom level.
â–¸ Block-size of the replication data transfer can be defined to a custom size.
â–¸ Recovery to the original virtual machine from its replicated site can be accomplished with a simple vSoC Trigger.
â–¸ Recovery to the original virtual machine is also possible at its replicated site by simply creating a new virtual machine from the replicated one. You can further recover it onto another site by relocating the virtual machine or further replicating it without starting it.
â–¸ Allows for very fast transfer of changed blocks of the virtual machine by building a substantially small list of checksums [ due to large blocks being checksummed ] but transferring more data in turn [ which is not a problem within and across most datacenters ].
â–¸ Allows for slower transfer to destination with links with less bandwidth and high link latency by lowering the block-size.
